The Prs Guitar Book: A Complete History of Paul Reed Smith Guitars
Published in Paperback by Backbeat Books (July, 2002)
Authors: Dave Burrluck and Tom Wheeler
Average review score:

Wonderful reading for all guitar enthuiasts.
In The PRS Guitar Book, Dave Burrluck describes in detail the evolution of PRS Guitars, the renowned company founded by expert guitar maker Paul Reed Smith in 1985. The PRS Guitar Book showcases every artistic and technical facet of these exquisite instruments that sold to an enthusiasts clientele for $2000 and up. The PRS Guitar Book is enhanced with lavish color photography, anecdotes and reminiscences from Smith, famous guitarists, and PRS employees, collectors and fans. The PRS Guitar Book is highly recommended, wonderful reading for all serious guitar enthusiasts, professional or amateur.

Highly recommended for dedicated guitarists.
This numbered limited edition may not reach all audiences but it provides an excellent survey of the PRS guitar built by Smith for a range of famous players. Gorgeous full-page color photos abound as do engrossing technical explanations of the guitar's development and history. Chapters covering construction techniques are particularly involving. Highly recommended: any avid guitar player who appreciates books on guitar making should have this keepsake edition, enclosed in a handsome slipcase.

Beautiful and informative
This is a very beautiful book - beautiful in itself and the PRS guitars showcased here. The photographs are large and clear. The PRS models are comprehensive. The quality of the book is very good. It's large-sized and it's thread bound in the spine. Unlike those bound with heat glue, this book will surely last. According to the publisher's information, it's a limited edition in quantities of 6000 only. This is a book that a PRS guitar owner should consider buying. For those who admire the workmanship and the beauty of quality guitars, this is a very good book to read. Shortcomings: the photos are up to a professional standard, but many of them are accompanied with a white bar in the upper body of the guitar due to shinny reflection. This effect can illustrate how shinny the guitar can be, but can be quite obstructive to the eyes. A final word of caution: Beware of the temptation that one would buy a PRS guitar right after reading this book - which can be far more expensive than the book itself!

Very good
Cheerful picture with illustrations. Highly recommended. My daughter love this book.

Excellent
I am trying to teach my developmentally challenged son sign language - as well as teach his grandparents and father. This book really helped all of them and kept his attention while we read it. It is simple and easy to understand. Just what we needed!

This one is a favorite at our house!
My two year old learned to sign these words quickly and enjoys reading this book over and over again. It has clear illustrations of signs and attractive pictures of common nouns and verbs in a young child's world.

A Smile on the Face of the Tiger (Wheeler Large Print Book Series (Cloth))
Published in Hardcover by Wheeler Pub (May, 2001)
Author: Loren D. Estleman
Average review score:

15 Novels Later, Amos Walker STILL Rocks
Most mystery series have become either worn out or routine by the time they get around to their 15th outing. Not so Loren Estlemen's Amos Walker P.I. series. If anything, Estlemen and his hero are getting better. "A Smile of the Face of the Tiger" is the fourth Walker book since Estlemen took a seven year hiatus from his favorite shamus, and it is easily the best of the "comeback" novels. Walker remains one of the few who truly does carry on the torch of Phillip Marlowe with his lonliness, cynicism and uncorruptible nature.

This time out, he tracks a old pulp fiction writer who has disappeared after turning down an advance to reprint one of his old novels. I've seen this story line several times before, but Estlemen gets clever with it. Along the way, he weaves in his usual menacing mobster (a Sammy "the Bull" Gravano clone, no less) and corrupt police officer angles, also in a fresh and unique way. It also helps that Estlemen puts two of the series's better supporting characters, police Lieutenant Mary Ann Thaler and beguiling publisher's representative Louise Starr, to good use this time out. As always, the real hero of the story is the once great city of Detroit, still struggling to regain some of its lost luster, this time with casino gambling.

Overall, Walker is among the best private detectives in the literary world today, and this is one of his best novels to date.

Among Estleman's Best
As a mystery writer with my first novel in initial release, I fondly recall the hours I spent reading Loren Estleman's Amos Walker series as I learned to write PI fiction. Amos Walker is a masterful creation, and A SMILE ON THE FACE OF THE TIGER is a masterful work. In this novel, Walker is hired by a New York publisher to hunt down a paperback mystery writer who will not allow his fifty-year-old classic to be reprinted. Along the way, Walker discovers the author's reasons and undercovers sordid truths about race relations in America. Estleman has dealt with Detroit's history thoroughly in past works, and he has also touched upon the interesting literary history of paperback pulp fiction. Mr. Estleman is at his most effective here in A SMILE ON THE FACE OF THE TIGER. It is a great book, and I recommend it highly.

A "must" for classic, two-fisted private-eye mystery fans!
Amos Walker is a hard-boiled private eye of the old school. in A Smile On The Face Of The Tiger, Walker is tracking down a man named Eugene Booth as part of a missing-person case. But something is going on he wasn't expecting that involves a New York mob hit man and a half-century-old murder. Just as with his previous Amos Walker mysteries, Loren Estleman writes a vividly crafted, gritty, pulp fiction style novel set in an underworld of passion, lies, murder, and unexpected revelations. A "must" for all classic, two-fisted private eye mystery fans

Sipping and Reading
Like most people, I was drawn to this book because of the artwork. And while the drawings are first-rate throughout, it was the writing that really got me hooked. From the seasonal stories to the recipes to the Holly Pond Hill Gazette entries, this book is a delightful potpourri of words. My hat's off to Paul Kortepeter for his inventiveness and to Susan Wheeler for her vision. I can't wait for the next book! Ciao.

American Guitars Revised Edition : Illustrated History, An
Published in Paperback by HarperResource (June, 1992)
Author: Tom Wheeler
Average review score:

No other reference like it.
This is my second copy having bought the first edition in the 80's. Finally I have a copy with the color plates! Anyway, if you're a fan of the guitar you have to have this book. If there's anything "wrong" with it, it is that it is now ten years old and I hope Tom Wheeler has plans for a new, 2002, update. I'd buy that one too! I also hope he gets around to mentioning Kustom guitars from the late sixties ( he hasn't so far) and I thought they looked cool back then.

One of the Top 10 Guitar Books
This book has got to be one of the top 10 guitar books on the market today. It covers all the major and lesser known U.S. guitar makers from A to Z, including history, models, specs, biographical info, and more. The sections on such well-known brands as Epiphone, Fender, Gibson, Gretsch and Rickenbacker are particularly interesting. With hundreds of great photos throughout, this book is one of the most comprehensive and well-written books available--a must for all guitar lovers.

Essential guide for the guitar collector or hobbyist
This book was given to me as a gift. I have referred to it often to answer questions for others, and just to learn about various guitars that I've had interest in. It's like taking a trip to a great guitar store to look at a huge stock of new and vintage guitars. If only I could reach into the pages and actually play each guitar...I would be in heaven.

Indispensible tool for all guitar collectors or hobbyists.

The Bach Flower Remedies
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill/Contemporary Books (11 October, 1998)
Authors: Edward Heal Thyself Bach, Edward Twelve Healers Bach, F. J. Bach Remedies Repertory Wheeler, and Dr. Edward Bach Centre
Average review score:

Simple yet effective
Dr. Edward Bach, a skilled homeopathic physician, developed his own theory about the cause of disease. Dr. Bach believed that physical diseases begin as an imbalance in the patient's emotional well-being. By attending to emotions and weeding out harmful emotions from the patient's psyche, a healing trend can be initiated that assists the patient in avoiding future physical diseases. Treating emotional states addresses diseases while they are still at the energy level. Dr. Bach believed that the flower essences could even be helpful once disease had progressed to a physical manifestation. The flower essences do not replace other treatments such as homeopathy, but they can assist other treatments by soothing the patient's mental condition and initiating preliminary steps towards healing the imbalance that led to the disease in the first place.

This book is filled with wonderful information that the beginner can use to learn to use the flower essences to heal themselves and others. It is the basic text and everyone who is interested in flower essences should have this text regardless of what other texts they own as well. Bach thoroughly explains his theory on the source of disease and then each flower essence is examined, one by one, showing the emotional profile of the patient who would most benefit from each remedy.

The system is very simple and can be learned easily by the layman but it is very effective -- only 38 remedies cover the entirety of negative human emotions! Dr. Bach insisted that the flower essences be kept simple because he believed that their simplicity was a key factor of their effectiveness. Treating one's self and others with flower essences is simple to learn but it is also an art that one will spend the rest of their lifetime developing and perfecting.

A great introductory book!
This book is a wonderful introduction to both the philosophy and the practice of the Bach Flower Remedies. It provides a lot of information without overwhelming the reader. The book is arranged in three sections. The first is Dr. Bach's essay entitled "Heal Thyself" which is about how each one of us has the power and is capable of healing ourself, the second section gives a short, useful description of each essence. The third section is a wonderful list of numerous emotional states and the appropriate essence to use for each one.

If you're at all interested in learning how to treat yourself using these remedies, this is the book for you. I've had this book for approximately 6 months and it is well worn already!

Mental and emotional harmony!
Have you ever noticed how your mood is instantly elevated when you inhale the scent of a rose deeply and with purpose. The world seems like a better place instantly. Rose oil has a frequency of around 320 MHz. Flowers are beautiful on their own and can lift your mood with their fragrance or with their petals blowing in the breeze in nature.

So, what other secrets do flowers conceal? Apparently, they can help us to change our emotional state. The scent of roses is said to dispel anger, or so I have read! In this book, flowers are celebrated as natural healers which can help us return to a healthful state.

Our emotions can at times manifest themselves as a health issue and greatly affect our bodies. Dr. Edward Bach (1897-1936) believed that physical illness was a manifestation of emotional imbalance. He believed we can heal and balance the body with nontoxic methods.

Some of the remedies include:

ASPEN - For fear or anxiety IMPATIENS - For impatience, irritability and nervousness. MUSTARD - Severe depression WILLOW - For neutralizing resentment and bitterness VERVIAN - For tension and hyperactivity or overachieving STAR OF BETHLEHEM - For mental shock

There are also remedies you can take for sensitivity, disappointment, muscular cramps, skin rashes, recurrent ailments, critical attitudes and bad dreams.

Look into other health remedies like Arnica for injuries, Pulsatilla for nasal problems, Cantharis for cystitis, Chamomile tea for a restful sleep and Gelsemium for flu symptoms. Look for a homeopathic brand called: Oscillococcinum for symptoms of the flu in the winter. The theory is that a infinitesimal amount of a plant substance can stimulate the body's healing defenses.

The closer you can match your symptom to the remedy, the more effective it will be for you. I suggest reading other homeopathy books along with this one. I also recommend "Reference Guide for Essential Oils by Connie and Alan Higley" from abundant-health4u.com as they have the best products I have found so far.

Whitefire (Wheeler Large Print Book Series (Paper))

The besst book ever!
I have never read a book as good as this. Katerina is a couragous young woman who sets out to gain her horses back after her village destroyed and she sets out to find the man who stole her virginity. The tables turn on her though. I loved this book and I know you will too.

Cry, but don't be ashamed
This book makes every pore in my body want to cry. It's a battle of wits and pride between the heroine (kat) and the hero. It is by far the best book written by Fern Michaels. It takes place in an interesting time nad makes you wish you a bystander to watch all this happen. Read it!

Absolutely great!!! Loved this book!!!
WhiteFire by Fern Michaels is wonderful. Although Russia is not my favorite setting for books, this one is an exception. From word go you fall in love with Katerina. She is wonderful as a character. You have to read this one for a really great book!

The Bequest (Wheeler Large Print Book Series (Paper))
Published in Paperback by Wheeler Pub (July, 1998)
Author: Candice E. Proctor
Average review score:

A WONDERFUL, UNUSUAL BOOK
This novel has it all--sensuality, danger, mystery, and a beautiful love story, all told in Candice Proctor's wonderfully evocative prose. The descriptions above really don't do justice to this story. Gabrielle Antoine is a convent raised orphan desperate to learn more about the mother she only dimly remembers. When she arrives in Central City, Colorado, she discovers more than she can handle: that her mother was a brothel owner and has only recently died, leaving her whorehouse to Gabrielle and to her mother's partner, a dark, dangerous, haunted man named Jordan Hays. Horrified, Gabrielle can think of nothing but leaving town and selling the house. But the evil nature of the prospective buyer and a sense of responsibility to the "girls" changes her mind.

What follows is a story of the corruption of innocence, deftly written by a master hand. Gabrielle's noble plans to help the "girls" find decent jobs and turn the house into a school are complicated by her desire to learn more about her mother and her mother's backgroud. An intelligent but fundamentally innocent and sheltered woman, Gabrielle must come to understand sin and human weakness and her own awakening sensuality against the decadent background of a 19th century whorehouse. The tortured hero, Jordan Hays, is gorgeous. Bound by his own noble nature and a promise made to a dying friend, all he wants to do is run away from Gabrielle, from the feelings she threatens to reawaken in him, and from what he knows will be the inevitable result of her growing physical attraction to him.

There is so much more to this book--wonderful secondary characters, a dangerous mystery, and the beauty of the Colorado Rockies, so wonderfully depicted. Candice Proctor writes with the power and intensity of Laura Kinsale, and the emotional depth of LaVyre Spencer. This is a wonderful book. Don't miss it.

You won't be able to put it down
I really liked this book, they had real problems to overcome not just silly misunderstandings you will really love this book

The best romance I have read in years
I love this book! Wonderful, richly developed characters (and a hero to die for!), evocative descriptions, a real conflict (as opposed to silly squables). Wonderful! I can't wait to read Ms. Proctor's next.

Bless Me, Father
Published in Audio Cassette by Ulverscroft Soundings Ltd- (August, 1989)
Authors: Neil Boyd and Peter Wheeler
Average review score:

A very funny account. . .
. . .of a young, newly ordained priest in his first assignment -- to be the assistant of an elderly eccentric. This book is "All Creatures Great and Small" in a religious setting! The characters are hysterical, from the acid-tounged housekeeper, Mrs. Pring; to the truly frightening "The Reverend Mother Stephen" to the constantly tipsy doctor -- and of course, to the delightful and witty Father Charles Duddleswell.

Believe me, you don't have to be Catholic (or even religious) to enjoy "Bless Me, Father".

As an aside, I also enjoyed the British TV series by the same name -- but not nearly as much as the book.

A book for everyone!
This book is so adorable and filled with a spirit of laughter and sunshine! I highly recommend it to everyone!

Bless Me, Father is the best sit-com ever in print!
I purchased a paperback copy of this book in an airport several years ago. The flight I was meeting was nearly 2 hours late, but I didn't mind because the book was very entertaining. So entertaining, in fact, that airport security was on the point of calling an area mental hospital to request an ambulance, straitjacket, and a couple of nurses to relieve them of the solitary woman who kept startling their paying customers. I roared over the Doomsday chair, but I positively shrieked at Father Duddleswell's violation of the confessional. I have actually purchased 2 copies of the book, but loaned them to borrowers who turned into thieves - neither copy was returned to me. If only I could remember who borrowed them....
